Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups Whole Wheat Flour Provides a hearty texture and nutty flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast Gives the breadsticks a light, airy rise.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavors and strengthens the dough.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Warm Water Activates the yeast and hydrates the dough.
  • 1 tablespoon Honey Adds a hint of sweetness and helps with browning.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Enriches the flavor and keeps the breadsticks tender.
Optional Flavor
  • 1 tablespoon Pizza Seasoning or Rosemary Adds a fragrant herbal note.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, active dry yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix warm water, honey, and olive oil. Stir until honey dissolves.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Cut the dough into strips and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Sprinkle with pizza seasoning or rosemary if desired.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a lighter texture, you can mix in a little all-purpose flour. Experiment with different toppings like garlic powder or grated cheese. Prepare the dough in advance and let it rise in the fridge overnight.
