For the Pie
  • 1 pre-made deep-dish deep-dish pie crust Forms the base of the pie, providing a flaky texture.
  • 1 can refried beans Adds creaminess and flavor at the bottom layer.

  • 1 packet taco seasoning Enhances flavor with zesty spices.
  • 2 tbsp dried minced onion Adds sweetness and depth to the meat mixture.
  • 1/2 cup water Helps to combine ingredients.
  • 1 cup chunky salsa Introduces freshness and acidity.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Melts beautifully, providing rich flavor.
  • 1 cup crushed tortilla chips Adds crunch and texture to the pie's topping.
For Garnishing
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro Optional garnish for a fresh flavor boost.
  • 1 cup sliced lettuce Adds crispness.
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes Provides fresh color.
  • 1 small sliced jalapeno Adds heat, optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  2. Place the unbaked pie crust in a pie dish and poke the bottom a few times with a fork.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until fully browned.
  2. Remove any extra grease from the skillet.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning, dried minced onion, water, and salsa.
  4. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.
  5. Fold in half of the shredded cheese.
  6. Spread refried beans in the bottom of the pie crust.
  7. Top the beans with the beef mixture.
  8. Sprinkle crushed tortilla chips on top.
  9. Top with the remaining cheese.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until crust is golden and filling is bubbly.
  11. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Garnishing
  1. Garnish with fresh cilantro, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeno, sour cream, or hot sauce as desired.

Notes

Taco Pie is meal-prep friendly and can be assembled in advance. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
