Ingredients

Bread Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1 packet yeast about 2 and 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 and 1/2 cups warm water about 110°F (43°C)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar helps activate the yeast

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture, stirring gently.
  3. Gradually add in all-purpose flour, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  5. Incorporate the Swiss cheese by folding it into the dough until evenly distributed.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  3. Let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  4. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and then enjoy warm!

Notes

For a crustier exterior, place a pan of water on the bottom rack of the oven while baking. Allow dough to rest longer in a cooler area for deeper flavors. Store leftovers wrapped tightly for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
