Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add olive oil and salt to the yeast mixture, stirring gently.
- Gradually add in all-purpose flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Incorporate the Swiss cheese by folding it into the dough until evenly distributed.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Remove from the oven, let it cool slightly, and then enjoy warm!
Notes
For a crustier exterior, place a pan of water on the bottom rack of the oven while baking. Allow dough to rest longer in a cooler area for deeper flavors. Store leftovers wrapped tightly for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
