Method
 

Preparation
  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until fully cooked.
  2. Drain excess fat from the cooked beef using a paper towel or colander.
  3. In the crockpot, combine onion, green pepper, garlic, ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper, stirring until mixed well.
Cooking
  1. Transfer the cooked ground beef to the slow cooker and stir until evenly combined.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours, stirring every 1 to 1 ½ hours.
  3. Once cooked, give the mixture a final stir to ensure flavors are well blended.
Serving
  1. Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto hamburger buns.
  2. Optionally top with shredded cheese, pickles, or coleslaw before serving.

Notes

For stovetop method, follow the initial steps to cook the beef and then combine with onions, bell pepper, and garlic before reducing heat and adding remaining ingredients, cooking until desired consistency. Serve on toasted buns as desired.
