Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a casserole dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. If not already prepared, cook and shred the chicken into bite-sized pieces.
  3. Crush the Ritz crackers into medium crumbs, leaving some larger pieces for texture.
  4. In a large bowl, combine cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. Incorporate the shredded chicken into the creamy mixture and stir until evenly coated.
  6. If using, fold in peas or broccoli for added texture and nutrition.
  7. Stir a small amount of crushed Ritz crackers into the filling mixture for extra flavor.
  8. Spread the chicken mixture evenly into the prepared casserole dish.
  9. Mix the remaining crushed crackers with melted butter until coated and sprinkle it evenly over the casserole.
