Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer bowl, combine milk, sugar, melted butter, pumpkin puree, spices, salt, and egg.
  3. Attach the bowl to the mixer with the dough hook and add 2 cups of flour, mixing until smooth.
  4. Add the dissolved yeast mixture and mix in the remaining flour until the dough is easy to handle.
  5. Knead with the dough hook for about 5 minutes or on a floured surface for 5 to 10 minutes until smooth.
Rising and Baking

  2. After dough has doubled, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle.
  3. Spread softened butter over the dough and sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and pumpkin pie spice.
  4. Roll up the dough tightly, pinching the edge to seal, and cut into equal slices.
  5. Coat the bottom of a baking pan with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
  6. Arrange the sliced rolls in the pan and let rise for about 45 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  8. Bake for about 30 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown.
Frosting
  1. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, butter, confectioners sugar, salt, maple extract, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Spread the frosting over the slightly cooled rolls and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, ensure your yeast is fresh and allows adequate time for rising. Wrap in foil if you prefer to bake the rolls the next day.
