Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups Warm water 110°F (43°C)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar Helps activate the yeast
  • 2 tsp Salt Enhances flavor
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until foamy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf or desired shape.
  3. Place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  4. With a sharp knife, make a few slashes on the top of the loaf for steam to escape.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  6. Let it cool before slicing.

Notes

For a more flavorful crust, brush the bread with olive oil before baking. Store leftovers in a paper bag at room temperature for up to 3 days.
