Ingredients
  

For the Patties
  • 1 lb Lean ground beef The base of the patties, offering a moist and hearty flavor.

For the Gravy
  • 8 oz Mushrooms Star ingredient for the gravy.
  • 1 medium Sweet onion Brings sweetness to the gravy.
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced Intensifies the flavor of the gravy.
  • 2 cups Broth Base of the gravy.
  • 1 tbsp Soy sauce Adds depth.
  • 1 tbsp Oyster sauce Enhances gravy’s flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch Thickening agent for the gravy.
  • 1/2 cup Filtered water Used in a slurry with cornstarch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Divide the mixture into four patties, pressing an indent in the center of each.
Cooking the Patties
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Sear the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, then remove them to rest.
Making the Gravy
  1. In the same skillet, heat more olive oil and add sliced mushrooms in a single layer.
  2. Cook the mushrooms for 4-5 minutes, then stir and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  3. Add the thinly sliced onion and cook until soft.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  5. Add broth, soy sauce, and oyster sauce, then let it simmer.
  6. Make a slurry with cornstarch and filtered water, then pour into the simmering gravy, stirring until thickened.
  7. Return the patties to the pan, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for an additional 3-4 minutes.
Serving
  1. Season with black pepper and serve hot.

Notes

Watch for overcooking the patties; they should be browned but not dry. For extra flavor, try adding a splash of red wine to the gravy. Always taste the gravy before serving and adjust seasoning as necessary. If you want a creamier gravy, stir in a splash of heavy cream before serving.
