Frying

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice the cheese into 1/2 inch thick slices. Rinse each slice briefly under running water and blot gently with a paper towel.
  2. Place flour in a shallow dish, adding salt and pepper as desired. Dredge the cheese in the flour, coating all sides, and shake off excess.
  3. If using breadcrumbs, dip cheese slices in the beaten egg, then dredge in breadcrumbs.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Fry the cheese on one side until golden brown, then carefully flip and fry the other side until golden brown, lowering heat if necessary.
  3. Squeeze lemon juice over the cheese and enjoy while hot.
  4. For flaming, pour brandy over the cheese and ignite carefully, then douse the flame with lemon juice.

Notes

Serve with a light salad for a balanced meal and consider pairing with fresh pita bread for dipping. Keep the cheese at room temperature before cooking for even frying.
