Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- Slice the cheese into 1/2 inch thick slices. Rinse each slice briefly under running water and blot gently with a paper towel.
- Place flour in a shallow dish, adding salt and pepper as desired. Dredge the cheese in the flour, coating all sides, and shake off excess.
- If using breadcrumbs, dip cheese slices in the beaten egg, then dredge in breadcrumbs.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Fry the cheese on one side until golden brown, then carefully flip and fry the other side until golden brown, lowering heat if necessary.
- Squeeze lemon juice over the cheese and enjoy while hot.
- For flaming, pour brandy over the cheese and ignite carefully, then douse the flame with lemon juice.
Notes
Serve with a light salad for a balanced meal and consider pairing with fresh pita bread for dipping. Keep the cheese at room temperature before cooking for even frying.
