For the Topping

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan and set it aside.
  2. Cut bread into 1-inch cubes and arrange them on the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, white sugar, brown sugar, vanilla extract, orange zest, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread.
  4. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Topping
  1. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Add the butter pieces and combine until crumbly. Refrigerate overnight.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the bread.
  3. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on preferred softness.
  4. Remove from the oven, mix powdered sugar with milk, drizzle over the bread, garnish with strawberries, and serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the casserole sit in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Use stale bread for a better texture, and watch closely during the last 10 minutes of baking.
