Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cookie sheet with parchment or a silpat liner.
  2. In a small skillet over medium-low heat, melt the butter.
  3. Add the diced apples, cinnamon, and granulated sugar into the skillet.
  4. Stir occasionally until the apples begin to turn translucent, about 15 minutes.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool for at least 10 minutes.
  6. Unroll the crescent rolls on a cutting board, keeping them in a rectangle.
Cooking
  1. Press the seams of the crescent rolls together to form one large rectangle.
  2. Evenly distribute the apple mixture over the prepared crescent rolls.
  3. Tightly roll up the dough into a log shape.
  4. Cut into 8 equal portions.
  5. Arrange the slices on the lined cookie sheet.
  6. Bake in the oven until golden on top, about 15-25 minutes.
Serving
  1. In a skillet, melt butter with brown sugar and stir for 2 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat, whisk in powdered sugar, then add vanilla and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream.
  3. Adjust the frosting by adding more cream for a desired consistency.

Use crisp, tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor contrast. Ensure the filling cools before spreading it on the dough to prevent sogginess.
