  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice and core the apples. Peeling is optional; cut them into small chunks.
  2. Place the apples in the bottom of a 7-quart slow cooker.
  3. Top with granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon; toss to combine.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on high for 3-5 hours, stirring after 2 hours.
  2. Cook until the apples look translucent, about 4 hours.
  3. Blend the apples and liquid into a smooth sauce using a hand blender.
  4. Return blended apples to the slow cooker.
  5. Continue cooking on high with the lid cracked for 30 minutes to an hour, until desired thickness is reached.
Serving
  1. Stir in salt and vanilla, then let cool before placing in jars or freezer containers.
  2. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or can for longer storage.

Notes

Try adding cloves for spice or orange zest for a citrus twist. Store unopened jars in a cool, dark place for best shelf life.
