Preparation
- Slice and core the apples. Peeling is optional; cut them into small chunks.
- Place the apples in the bottom of a 7-quart slow cooker.
- Top with granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon; toss to combine.
Cooking
- Cover and cook on high for 3-5 hours, stirring after 2 hours.
- Cook until the apples look translucent, about 4 hours.
- Blend the apples and liquid into a smooth sauce using a hand blender.
- Return blended apples to the slow cooker.
- Continue cooking on high with the lid cracked for 30 minutes to an hour, until desired thickness is reached.
Serving
- Stir in salt and vanilla, then let cool before placing in jars or freezer containers.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or can for longer storage.
Notes
Try adding cloves for spice or orange zest for a citrus twist. Store unopened jars in a cool, dark place for best shelf life.
