Preparation
- Heat the milk to a near boil, then let it cool to lukewarm (80-90°F).
- In a small bowl, mix the milk, yeast, and honey. Let sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix 3 tablespoons of melted butter, the milk mixture, the egg, salt, and half of the flour until smooth. Gradually add remaining flour until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8 minutes, then transfer it to a floured surface and knead for a few more minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
Cooking
- Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to 1/2 inch thick. Fold in half and seal gently.
- Cut the dough into 24 even squares and place on two greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise for 30-40 minutes until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 12-15 minutes until light golden brown.
- Brush the top of the rolls with the remaining melted butter before serving.
Notes
For the best results, do not over-knead the dough. Allow rolls to rise in a warm, draft-free area and brush with extra melted butter before serving.
