Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice until well mixed.
- In another bowl, whisk the brown sugar and melted butter together until smooth.
- Whisk in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Fold in the dry ingredients and grated carrots until just combined.
Cooking
- Pour and spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
- Bake for approximately 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before frosting.
Frosting
- For the frosting, beat together softened cream cheese and unsalted butter until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and a pinch of salt, mixing until creamy.
- If too thick, add a splash of milk to reach the desired consistency.
Serving
- Spread frosting over the cooled bars and garnish with cinnamon or chopped walnuts as desired.
- Cut the bars into squares and serve.
