Preparation
- Combine fresh or frozen blackberries, granulated sugar, and water in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the blackberries break down, creating a syrup.
- Once thickened, strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove seeds and pulp, leaving you with a smooth blackberry syrup.
Mixing the Margarita
- In a cocktail shaker, combine the homemade blackberry syrup, fresh blackberries, tequila, triple sec or Cointreau, lime juice, and ice.
- Shake vigorously until the mixture is chilled and well combined.
Serving
- Optional: Dip the rims of your glasses in lime juice and then in salt or sugar for enhanced flavor.
- Strain the mixture into the prepared glasses over fresh ice, and garnish with lime wedges and whole blackberries.
Notes
For the best flavor, opt for fresh blackberries when in season. You can also create a non-alcoholic version by replacing tequila and triple sec with sparkling water or lemonade.
