Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 2 pieces Chicken breasts Lean protein that shreds beautifully.
  • 1 cup Barbecue sauce Adds sweet and smoky flavor.
  • 1 medium Onion For sweetness and crunch.
  • 4 pieces Buns Choose whole wheat for a healthier option.
  • 1 cup Cabbage Adds crunch and freshness.
  • 1/2 cup Pickles For tangy contrast.
  • 1 cup Coleslaw mix Optional for extra crunch and flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Place the chicken breasts in a baking dish and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Pour your favorite barbecue sauce over the chicken, ensuring it’s well coated.
  4. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F or 74°C).
  5. Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes.
  6. Shred the chicken using two forks, mixing it with the barbecue sauce in the dish.
Assembly
  1. While the chicken cools, toast the buns in a skillet or oven until golden brown.
  2. Assemble the burgers: place the shredded BBQ chicken on the bottom bun, add thinly sliced onion, cabbage, pickles, and coleslaw mix if desired, then top with the other half of the bun.
  3. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, marinate chicken in barbecue sauce for a few hours before baking. Use a slow cooker for different texture, and add jalapeños for a spicier kick.
