  • 1/2 cup apple butter Adds a natural sweetness and moisture.
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh sage Offers a fragrant herbal note that complements the sweetness.
  • 2 cups freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese Delivers rich flavor and melts beautifully.
  • 1 firm tart or semi-tart apple apple Gives a fresh crunch and balances the richness.
  • 1 pound deli turkey meat Adds protein and savory depth to the sandwich.
  • 4 tablespoons light butter spread Ensures the bread grills evenly and adds flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat Your Cooking Surface. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low or preheat your panini press to medium-high.
  2. Prepare the Bread. Spread all four slices of bread with apple butter on one side.
Assembly
  1. Layer the Ingredients. For each sandwich, layer half of the sage, half of the cheese, apple slices, and turkey on one slice of bread.
  2. Complete the Sandwich. Place the remaining bread slices on top, apple butter side down.
  3. Butter the Bread. Butter the outsides of the sandwich.
Cooking
  1. Grill the Sandwich. Grill on the stovetop for 2 to 4 minutes until golden, or use the panini press, adding additional butter or nonstick spray as needed.
  2. Slice and Serve. Once grilled, slice the sandwiches and enjoy hot.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, add a sprinkle of cinnamon to the apple butter. Replace apple butter with other fruit spreads for different flavor profiles. Use a mix of cheeses for varied taste and meltiness.
